Doctor Honoris Causa Ceremony

This year's dies natalis of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel is of particular significance, because the University celebrates its 25th Anniversary. At this occasion, a festive academic session will take place on Tuesday, May 30 1995, during which the University will confer degrees of Doctor Honoris Causa.

A cordial welcome to attend this event is extended to all conference participants.

Exhibition "University and Society: 25 years V.U.B".

During the conference, an exhibition will be organized on campus, displaying the 25 years history of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (V.U.B.). Its broader scope is to highlight the interrelationship between universities and society in more general terms. The exhibition deals with the major political, economical, social and cultural changes in both Belgian and international society. It explores their influence on university life, research and education. A special part of the exhibition presents the modern art collection of the university.

Guided tours in English and French will be given during the week of the congress, the timetable will be announced at the information desk.

Commemorative Edition

During the Conference, a book marking the 25th anniversary of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel will be presented.

Conference Banquet (Tuesday, 30 May 1995)

The evening banquet will be held on Tuesday, 30 May 1995 at 8 p.m. in the Hotel Metropole, in the centre of Brussels. The price of the banquet will be BEF 1,750.

The Hotel Metropole is a Brussels landmark which this year celebrates its 100th anniversary and for this reason is delighted to be associated with conference. In this way it takes up an old tradition, since the hotel Metropole was the venue of the famous Solvay Scientific Conferences of the beginning of this Century. The hotel is the city's only remaining 19th century hotel and has 410 rooms, a restaurant 'L'Alban Chambon', 'Le XIXieme' bar and 11 function rooms accommodating from 5 to 600 people. All invited speakers of the conference will stay in the hotel Metropole.
