HJ- Agent

(author): Heylighen, Joslyn

(sense-of): agent

(isa): state

Synopsis: A state whose actions' left sides are invariant. An equivalence class of actions with respect to their sources, or causes. An agent is that which "performs"an action, and is thus invariant with respect to objects. Under a variety of different actions, the actions' causes remain invariant. This sense of agent does not entail the presence of a conscious subject.
