STANDARD

Proposition of a norm or general pattern to be followed when constructing, operating or testing a (technical) device. A standard contains a set of reference criteria for functional, structural, performance or quality aspects of a device or for any combination of these. Among others, a standard serves to achieve compatibility and harmonisation. (Hornung)
