A prefix meaning "changed in position", " beyond", "on a higher level", "transcending," etc., referring to the body of knowledge about a body of knowledge or about a field of study, e.g., metaMATHEMATICS, metaCOMMUNICATION ( Walzlawick), or metaINFORMATION, i.e., information about information, which is on a logical level higher than indicated (see theory of logical types, ordinality, meta-uncertainty).
