ENCRYPTION
(synonymous with ENCIPHERING) Conversion of plaintext into encrypted data by using a secret code that masks the meaning of the DATA to any unauthorized recipient. In order to make it readable, it has to be converted back into plaintext by decryption. See also encoding. (Hornung)
